Jilted lover stalked ex-fiancee

Marlene Hunter, of Wigan, Greater Manchester spoke to Cavendish Press to tell how she suffered five years of harassment by her former fiancé who tried to win her back with never ending love letters, cards, jewellery and even putting her in his will, after she ended their two-year relationship.  Marlene, 59, had broken off her relationship with Graham Walker after he asked her to marry him. But Graham refused to accept things were over and made it his mission to win her back – he’d regularly send his former lover piles of cards, handwritten love letters, red roses and even jewellery and over the years she amassed hundreds of these ‘love tokens’. When the harassment first began, Marlene became very isolated from many of her friends, who repeatedly told her she was lucky to be receiving so much attention and flattery, remarking they wished their husbands would take a leaf out of Graham’s book. But after a while, Marlene began to dread arriving home from for fear of what she’d find waiting for her on the hall floor. The soppy letters, sometimes still referred to Marlene as his girlfriend and spoke about their future together as he refused to accept she no longer loved him. When she arrived home one day to find an envelope marked ‘Don’t open, you’ll know when the time is right’ Marlene tore it open to find her ex’s will, naming her as executor and leaving cash and goods to her. Horrified Marlene rang Victim Support who advised her to contact police. Graham pleaded guilty to charges of harassment without violence  and was last month given a three month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, an 18 month supervision order and an indefinite restraining order forbidding him from contacting Marlene or going within 250 yards of her home and he was also made to undertake the Integrated Domestic Abuse Programme. The story went in Take A Break magazine.
