
Two adventure loving brothers were beaten by a sneering mob for being ''too worthy'' whilst out training for a 125 mile charity walk. Gareth Cottrell, 26, his younger brother Fraser, 15, were preparing for a coastal walk in aid of Cancer Research when the ten yobs who were sat by a canal drinking lager decided to attack them. One of the thugs yelled abuse at the pair about them being ''worthy w..kers'' before squaring up to them and pelting them with stones as they tried to escape. They gang then began to follow the brothers and their pal Josh Fitzpatrick, 21, before a 40-year-old yob who was with the group of thugs slashed Gareth across the cheek with a key hidden in his fist, cutting a gash that required ten stitches. Students Fraser and Josh suffered severe bruising and cuts to the face but were able to escape and ran to a police community support officer, who took them to Tameside General Hospital, in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester.
