
England football star Wayne Rooney hit the back of the net by defeating a ''joke'' £4.5m lawsuit against him. The Manchester United striker, 24, had been sued by his former agents over unpaid commissions of up to £8.3m for a contract his parents signed when he was 17-years old. But a judge threw out the case against the footballer and his wife Coleen after they dismissing their eight year contract with Proactive sports management agency as a ''mistake'' and their subsequent lawsuit as a ''joke.'' The super-rich couple who have an estimated £35m fortune claimed they were victims of "exploitation'' because of their celebrity status. Rooney and 23-year old Coleen was not at Manchester Mercantile court to hear the judgement as they are on holiday at their £5m villa in Barbados with their son Kai and other members of their family. But his long time agent Paul Stretford attended the hearing in which Judge Brendan Hegarty QC ordered Rooney to pay ''nominal damages' of £5,000 for accountancy fees.
